Organ Donation and a Quest for The Games!

My gorgeous niece rang me the other day with a request, could I help her with her quest… She is almost 12 and the happiest, brightest little girl you have ever met. An adventurous, never-say-die spirit that belies the fact that this little girl is sitting on a ticking time bomb.

My niece Jazz, had a liver transplant at two years of age, after being born with a condition that completely destroyed her liver by the time she was 6 months old. she had to wait 2 years for a liver and by the time she was called in, my niece looked like one of those starving african children you see on the news. This to me is a crime, many people passed away during that ghastly 2 year wait, yet not enough of them had agreed to donate their organs and so these tiny children suffer, really suffer, in and out of hospital every week, daily at times and in so much pain… She will need another liver in about 5 or 6 years, as the very medication that prevents her liver from rejecting also breaks down the liver.

So now she is healthy and happy, but we are all aware that this may not last. However, in true inimitable Jazz style, she has decided to compete in the Perth ‘Transplant Games’ in October and is hoping to raise awareness of the plight of children in Australia who need transplants and the low rate of organ donation.

Come on Australia! Get behind these kids and their bid to be winners, to change the world and to live! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oy! Oy! Oy!

If you’re in or around Bundaburg, keep an eye out for the sausage sizzles and fun run to be held in Jazz’s honour, they need to fund raise to get the family over there, help them out and say hi from her Aunty Annie.
